A divisional patent application is a form of a continuation patent application. When the United States Patent and Trademark Office determines that a single patent application contains two (or more) patentably distinct inventions, the claims in the original application can be directed to one invention and one or more divisional patent applications can be filed to separately claim the additional inventions.
